Kathmandu: Nepal’s aim of playing the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup has been shattered after United Arab Emirates defeated Oman by 10 wickets in today’s match of the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier Asia 2019 in Malaysia. Nepal’s win over Kuwait in today’s match and UAE’s lose against Oman were needed for Nepal to qualify for the World Cup.
Despite starting out impressively with a 217-run win over Singapore in its first match and moving ahead with good scores in following matches, Nepal lost to UAE by one run at the eleventh hour, which was detrimental for the team to make it to the World Cup.
Winner was announced based on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method following cancellation of the match due to rains. In previous matches, Nepal beat Malaysia and Oman by eight and 15 runs respectively. Even Nepal’s win over Kuwait has not given it an excuse for its failure to reach the World Cup anyway.
By points, UAE will play in the World Cup scheduled for next year in South Africa. Nepal beat Kuwait by eight wickets Meanwhile Nepal beat Kuwait by eight wickets in its last match of the Asia Qualifier of the ICC U-19 One Day World Cup Qualifier.
It achieved the 158-run target set by Kuwait in 28 overs losing two wickets. Invited to bat first after losing the toss, Kuwait made 157 runs in 19.4 overs at the loss of all wickets. RSS
