Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday praised the late democratic fighter Mahendra Narayan Nidhi as a simple, honest and inspiring figure. "Nidhi's principles are worth pursuing and his political faith is inspiring for all. He was an epitome of austere lifestyle and the personality fighting for peace, harmony, social justice and democracy," she said addressing the 97th birth anniversary function of Nidhi organised here by the Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Foundation.
She also viewed that the current political generation could learn from Nidhi's worth following political life, and his contribution to national politics to help strengthen spirits of national unity and harmony is relevant even at present and will be in the future.
At the programme, President Bhandari presented the 'Mahendra Narayan Nidhi National Award' of 2074 and 2075 BS established in honour of late Nidhi and 'Prem Sagaridevi Nidhi Award' of 2074 and 2075 BS, established in memory of late Nidhi's wife to various personalities of different sectors of the society.
President Bhandari presented the 'Mahendra Narayan Nidhi National Award-2074' jointly to Culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi and Dr Gauri Shankarlal Das.The award carries a purse of Rs 100,000.
Similarly, 'Prem Sagaridevi Nidhi Award-2074' was presented to women activist Kumari Laxmi Rai. The award carries a purse of Rs 51,000.
Likewise, President Bhandari presented the 'Mahendra Narayan Nidhi National Award-2075' jointly to democratic figure Tirtharam Dangol and human right activist Ram Narayan Dev while 'Prem Sagaridevi Nidhi Award' was presented to Shanti Karki and Maina Karki.
On the occasion, former Speaker Damannath Dhungana, former Deputy Prime Minister and son of late Nidhi, Bimalendra Nidhi and Foundation President Purushottam Dahal also expressed their views.
The Foundation was established in 2058 BS and it has been awarding different personalities for their remarkable contribution in the society since 2070 BS. RSS
