Pragya-Lalabala Theatre Festival-II Kicks off

Kathmandu: Eminent literary figure and litterateur Mr. Abhi Subedi, today, inaugurated the Pragya- Lalabal 2nd National Solo Theatre Festival for Children 2075 at Shilpi Theatre in Kathmandu. The  inaugural ceremony commenced with Kumari dance from the students of Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School, the organizer of entire events.

There are 16 theatre artists expanding theater studies in different schools were felicitated by “Theatre Education Samman – 2075” during the ceremony. Ms. Sunita Poudel, the principal of Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School highlighted the motive behind this festival and the importance of theater education in school in her welcome speech.  

Mr. Abhi Subedi expressed his valuable thoughts about theatre studies, his efforts to expand it from theatres to schools and congratulated the school for such an endeavor of the school to collaborate with different schools of the country and link it with the international arena. 

Started with the non-competent performance from Trisha Bhatta of Kathmandu Pragya Kunja school, the first day witnessed 13 power packed solo drama from Prerana Bhattarai of Ambition Acadeamy. Similarly,  the performances of Suman Lama from Bibhuti Pathshala, Kushal Bahadur Thapa and Aayushma Poudel from Little Angles School, Deepshikha Dhital from Lake Boarding School, Aakar Thapa from KMC School, Subhekshya Timilsina from Paragon School, Shrabya Bhattarai of Global Public School, Prabuddha Kharel of Emile Academy, Kritagya Bhattarai from Bagmati Boarding School, Khushi Timilsina from Kavre Secondary School and Sapana Dhimal from Aakashganga International Academy were held. Students' performance raised serious issues from rape and murder case of Nirmala, corruption to many social issues and humor. 

Organized by Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School in support of School Theatre Nepal, the festival is conceptualized and directed by Tanka Chaulagain. 49 students from 41 schools are competing in this event.

The lodging and fooding facility of all 15 students and 10 teachers participating from 10 different schools outside the Kathmandu value is sponsored by the organizer. The judges duo – eminent artists Mr. Harihar Sharma and Mr. Deshbhakta Khanal will be evaluating all the 49 participants and the selected best 5   solo performers will win a trophy, cash prize and a chance to participate in Solo Theater Festival being organized in Colombo, Sri Lanka with the collaboration of Red Apple Theater Gathering of Sri Lanka.
